Old Time in Newburgh

Old Time in Newburgh is an annual old time workshop in the town in North Fife on the banks of the Tay. "Old Time" music is really just American folk music of a type which is sometimes called "Hillbilly Music" or "String Band Music", and predates Bluegrass. I have had a great love for this music for many years, and used to perform in an Old-Time group based in Edinburgh, Clutching At Straws.

The workshops particularly suit stringed instruments such as fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass, etc. If you have any doubt about whether it will suit you, please get in touch (email me). The workshop timetable is below; any problems, let me know.

This year's Old Time in Newburgh will be on Saturday 11th October 2014, at The Steeple, Newburgh, Fife (see map).

To book your place on the workshop, send a cheque for £40.00 full price, or £10.00 deposit to Nigel Gatherer, 8 Mitchell Street, Crieff PH7 3AG. Alternatively, you can pay on-line by using the button below (Paypal) or bank transfer using your internet banking account (email me for details).

Part of Old Time in Newburgh consists of an old-time session arranged for the last hour of the day (4-5pm). I have prepared a booklet of common old time jam session tunes which can be downloaded:

In your print dialogue control, print odd pages first, then turn paper over, choose reverse order and then print even pages. Finally, staple pages together to give you an A4 booklet.
