Old-Time Workshop for Mixed Instruments

Linlithgow Folk Festival 2009

Nigel Gatherer is conducting a mixed instrument workshop in Old Time music at the Linlithgow Folk Festival 2009, 2:00 till 4:00pm in Cross House.

All welcome, within reason (e.g. perhaps bagpipes aren't the best instrument for old-time music), and it's not suitable for complete beginners.

I'm currently working on material for this workshop, which will explore old-time styles, playing in a group, and possibly performing. Tunes I'm thinking of are:

• Needlecase, which I learned from the late Ray Stewart, banjo player from Aberdeen;
• Dry and Dusty, which I got from a 78rpm recording of The Morrison Brothers Band;
• West Fork Girls, which I learned from Edinburgh banjo player John Greig
