    Gatherer's Musical Museum, Vol.1

Being a Choice Selection of Scottish Melodies
    Published 1987 A5 format, 48 pages

As interest in traditional music increases, Nigel Gatherer has compiled this delightful selection of Scottish dance music and airs, which brings together some of the more unusual Scottish melodies in distinct and uncluttered settings. Whether it is the sophisticated reels of the nineteenth century, the Strathspeys which evoke feelings of passion, the slow airs, or the Highland pipe marches, these tunes will be enjoyed by all players of traditional music.

95 tunes, including reels, jigs, Strathspeys, slow airs, hornpipes and marches.

    Songs & Ballads of Dundee

    Songs and Ballads of Dundee

    Compiled by Nigel Gatherer
    First published 1986

This collection of over seventy folk songs and ballads, with music, dealing with Dundee uses extensive notes and carefully chosen photographs to illustrate key periods in the history of the city. Through the songs there unfolds the story of the men of the sea, the great clipper fleets and the hard life o the whaling ships, the rise and fall of the jute mills and the women who supplied their workforce, and the mass unemployment of the 1930s. The characters of Dundee, from Graham of Claverhouse ("Bonnie Dundee" and the elusive Piper o' Dundee to the worthies and rogues of the streets, are celebrated and the result is a fascinating picture of Dundee and its people over the centuries. This should become the definitive collection.
