Learning Centres

ALP Scots Music Group
Formed in 1989 to provide traditional music classes in the community. Now caters for 500 students every year.

Glasgow Fiddle Workshop
Although formed to cater for traditional Scottish fiddle music, this popular organisation now offers classes in mandolin, bodhran, singing, whistle, guitar, etc.

Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop
Associated with the Glasgow Fiddle Workshop, this initiative is centred around Lochgoilhead, teaching traditional fiddle playing.


Jim Sutherland
Jim Sutherland, who has played with Mirk and The Easy Club, is one of Scotland's most inventive mandolin, cittern, and bodhran players.

Da Capo Alba
A mandolin and guitar orchestra based in south Lanarshire, Da Capo Alba play everything from classical to jazz to traditional Irish and Scottish.

Kenny MacKenzie
Scottish smallpipes, Highland pipes, low whistle, mouth organ and also songs, accompanied by acoustic guitar, bass, fiddle and percussion. New CD the reel mackenzie.

Barbara Dickson
Former folkie singer turned successful singer.

The Drumalban Folk Ensemble
Drumalban have been going strong for over 30 years, promoting traditional Scottish music, song, storytelling and dance, as an integrated whole. They started life as a wholly Gaelic/West Highlands affair, but over time have come to represent almost all of the Scottish tradition, and have been the springboard for many of the current Scottish traditional artists.
