Man Suit As I Welcome Robyn
As I welcome flute player Robyn all the way from North Queensland, I wonder about the other recent members. Who are you? What brings you here, and what's your involvement with music?

I started as a boy on the old ukulele, progressing to guitar under the influence of two older brothers. When I became interested in traditional music I started on the penny whistle; I loved it and still do. A little later, after I was frustrated at not being able to play these wonderful B flat tunes I was hearing, I started sneaking into my older brother's room and stealing shots of his mandolin. That was me, and for more than thirty years the mandolin has been a very important part of my life.

RE: As I Welcome Robyn
Hello Nigel,
Just read your posting, so here goes in reply.
Here, in Devon, we are in the midst of the wonderful Sidmouth Folk Festival. I only play the Penny Whistle now, but have been joining in so many sessions, besides playing with the Wren Rough Music Orchestra at the event too. The sessions have allowed me to play with a great many v good musicians of every stamp, age and instrument. An invaluable experience - and it ain't over yet, still one more day to go. Its impressive to see so many young musicians playing too.
I did go to a Beginners Melodeon workshop, where they provided you with an instrument, but truth be told, I couldn't hack it. Try as he might, guru Ed Rennie, couldn't drum it into me in the time allotted. All that pushing and pulling for the different notes- though I am sure I could do it if I had my own Melodeon and practised hard. Its a case of investing I suppose.
On another topic. Some months ago now (30th May), I posted that my son's wedding is on 8th Sept at a place near North Berwick. I am still looking for some musicians to play- just for the fun of it and the food and festivities of course. You did say you yourself would come, but were otherwise engaged. Any further ideas (from anyone??).
Hope to be able meet you and join in a session somewhere when I am in Scotland next month.
