Music TOW#47: The Cairdin O't
The Cairdin' O't

This tune can be found in Aird’s Collection Vol.3 (1788) under the title Salt Fish and Dumplings and even earlier in Margaret Sinkler’s manuscript (c.1710) as Queensbury’s Scots Measure. Arranged as a 4-part pipe march, it’s called The Braes o’ Glen Brun. Burns used the air on possibly two occasions, for the songs On Cessnock Banks and ?-----?. This transcription is based on the playing of Ron Gonnella.

Another fine rendition Tosh. Well up to your usual offerings.

Yes, a well played "Off the paper" version.

However, this tune is longing for the addition of a few triplets and other ornaments here and there to give it a bit more feeling and a more natural flow. There's no right or wrong way to do this, of course. It's all down to taste but we shouldn't be ruled by the very basic notation here.

Thanks for the rendition Tosh. Very helpful to me learning it (I cant read music at all so need to hear the timings ect to learn things.)
Joined the forum specifically to have a go at some of these and actually learn to play the instrument I bought!
Think I'll have a try at this one for a starter, may upload at some point (depending on the degree of success.)
