The Blue Blanket
Looks like the slow session has decamped to the Canon's Gait?

A tune for the occasion, a slow hornpipe. It's adapted from an old tune of mine which I think Nigel has heard under its old title (the person I wrote it for doesn't want to be reminded of the events that prompted it).

The Blue Blanket is the old name for the Canon's Gait pub. If they want it renamed to the new one they can start providing low-cholesterol sandwiches.

RE: The Blue Blanket
I guess the Canon's Gait session should also include "Cadgers in the Canongate".
Found several versions on JC's ABC Tune Finder ( http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/tunefind ): ABC of one in A appended, and a JPEG attached of the score.
Alistair.

RE: The Blue Blanket
Fiddlers won't thank you for putting that tune in A. Normal version in G linked from here:

Under its alternative title "Dalkeith Fair" it's a very old pipe tune, very unusual in being in G.

Thanks, Jack.
Not only fiddlers ... that high C# is a problem on the recorder as well, as you know (and maybe the whistle too). I agree G is better. The A version just happened to be the first on the list returned by JC's ABC tune finder.

"Cadgers in the Canongate" is also the name of a country dance. Maybe the tune was adopted for that and so acquired the alternative name by association.
