Playing for a Wedding nr North Berwick
My son is getting married on 8th Sept -a few months yet- at a place near North Berwick and we are looking for a few enthusiastic amateur musicians (that should allow me to join in with my Penny Whistle sometimes anyway) to play some music. Not really for dancing- just as a bit of entertainment. Anyone interested? I look forward to hearing from you.

I would have, as I'm often in NB, but I have a big concert in Crieff that night. Hope you manage to get some fellow musicians, Patrick.

Good luck.
The problem with weddings is that as soon as the word is mentioned most musicians are blinded by £££ signs and, more so than any other type of gig, see such an event as an opportunity to charge whatever they wish.

Of course, inviting musical friends along as guests is a slightly different scenario.

On what do you base this assertion, John? Personal experience?

RE: Playing for a Wedding nr North Berwick
Only personal experience to the extent that I have a rough idea of what bands and musicians will charge for folk clubs, festivals, regular concerts etc and what they generally expect if asked to play at a wedding or a corporate event etc is usually much higher. In my position, it would be inappropriate and unethical to provide examples.
If there is the demand out there and they are good enough, then good luck to them. There's always people getting married, after all.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that this would be the situation when friends(I assume they will soon become so if they aren't already)are involved or invited.
Far from it, I'm sure.

Thanks Nigel and JAJ for your suggestions and help. We are not after professionals/paid musicians. What I would like to find is someone (or a few) like minded souls (based locally) who can play such as guitar, fiddle or whistle, so that I can join in on my Penny Whistle too. They would be welcome to the buffet and would be treated as wedding guests really. Thanks Nigel for your offer. It would be an honour to see you and I only wish you could grace the party. Hope this clarifies things and look forward to hearing from you.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I can't manage either as it is clashing with both Linlithow and Kirriemuir festivals.
Another slight issue might be getting musicians who are fairly used to playing together or can adapt quite easily to this sort of situation. Otherwise, the result might be a bit of a hit and miss.
