Regular trad music in Edinburgh?
Anyone have an up-to-date list of where you can find regular trad music (sessions, or performances) in Edinburgh? Here's what I can think off:
Sun: Captains Bar (Tom Oakes and Kathryn Nicholl. perf, not a session) Mon: Diggers sessions; Greenmantle session Tue: ? Wed: Bennets SMG slow session (term-time); Canons Gait session Thur: Antiquary session Fri: ? Sat: possibly Captains Bar, but genre varies I've ignored Sandy Bells, since it has something every day. RE: Regular trad music in Edinburgh?
The Monday session (21.00-23.00) in the Newliston Arms at Kirkliston is well-established.
Cheers, Eric. |

RE: Regular trad music in Edinburgh?
I have a Twitter page for that:
http://twitter.com/JackCampin I only list sessions that I'd consider going to myself (i.e. no all-Irish ones) and where I have really trustworthy information that they're still running. More about the Diggers one? It wasn't on Monday when I last went there (years ago). http://www.campin.me.uk |

There's apparently a regular Friday night session at Canon's Gait, led by George Duff and Tim O'Leary - used to be in the Tass pre-name change. I believe there may also be a regular Thursday night session starting in whatever the Tass has now become led by Andrew Lyons. |

Andrew Lyons and Ian Main lead the 'Tass', i.e. No. 1 High Street, session on Thursday nights.

Here's what I can think off: I heard that the Wednesday session at the Tass (now called 1 High Street) has resumed, but is entirely singing (no separate instrumentals). I also heard that the Diggers session last week (Wednesday?) was stopped by council noise abatement officers who marched in and said "It's too loud: you have to stop". Alistair. |

RE: Regular trad music in Edinburgh?
I think somebody has been threatening the Diggers for a while? I was asked not to list it on my Twitter page.
But of the noise abatement people are objecting to something as quiet as that while letting the pub TVs along Gorgie Road pass, they are clearly abusing their powers. Maybe a word with the local councillor might be in order (assuming the councillor hasn't already been bought). http://www.campin.me.uk |

RE: Regular trad music in Edinburgh?
I spoke to Barry at Bennet's last evening at the end of the Slow Session, and he said Bennet's would be happy for the session to continue over the summer.
On the other hand, Barry is leaving Bennet's at the end of this week. He said he would pass on the information to the new manager, but that person might well have different ideas. Also the new layout in Skean Dhu is the reverse of session-friendly. So unless an alternative venue can be found I guess there will be no Slow Session from now till the resumption of SMG classes in September. Alistair. |

Alistair,
I have sent you a private message with a possible suggestion. It may be an option but I thought you should consider it first before I posted any details here..... Or someone else might get in first.
