Angels From The Ashes (Blair Douglas)
Hi there folks.
Happy Easter and here's another tune to delight. It was composed by Blair Douglas in memory of all those who lost their lives in New York on 9/11 (11th September to us) 2001. It's extremely nice to play on the accordion, fiddle, or whatever but --ideally--- slowly. Please feel free to "enrich" (as is your want) with harmonies if you feel that it improves things. ![]() As usual, I'll also attach a PDF. X: 1 T: Angels From The Ashes M: 3/4 L: 1/8 R: waltz K: Dmaj D2|F(A A4)|(A4 A)F|E(D D4)|D4 EF|(E4 E)D|B,4 G,2|(A,6|A,6)| B,2 D4|(D4 D)E|(F4 F)E|F4 D2|(G4 G)F|(A4 A)F|(E6|E4) D2| F2 A4|(A4 A)F|E2 D4|D4 EF|(E4 E)D|B,4 G,2|(A,6|A,6)| B,2 D4|D4 EF|E4 D2|(A4 A)F|(G4 G)F|(E4 E)F|(D6|D4) FG| F2 A4|(A4 A)F|E2 D4|D4 F2|(G4 G)B,|D4 G,2|(A,6|A,4) FG| F2 A4|(A4 A)F|E4 D2|E4 F2|(G4 G)F|(A4 A)F|(E6 |E2) F2 G2| F2 A4|(A4 A)F|E2 D4|D4 EF|(G4 G)B,|D4 G,2|(A,6|A,6)| B,2 D4|D4 EF|E4 D2|(A4 A)F|(G4 G)F|E4 F2|(D6|D4)|| “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet just because there’s a picture with a quote next to it.”

RE: Angels From The Ashes (Blair Douglas)
What a really evocative composition, JAJ. Just been trying it on the bouzouki and it sounds very promising. Thanks for posting.

I've been looking for the music for this tune for ages, I'd tearsin my eyes the first time I heard Blair playing it

RE: Angels From The Ashes (Blair Douglas)
According to Blair's sheet music it goes something like this
DDBmDGGDD GDBmGEmF#mAA DDBmBmGGDD GDBmF#mEmADD DDBmBmGGDF#m DDBmBmEmF#mAA DDBmBmGGDF#m GDBmF#mEmADD Each chord is for one whole bar of the tune. Of course, as I've said here before, it's a matter of taste which chords you use and there are other possibilities just as long as they don't clash with other instruments. “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet just because there’s a picture with a quote next to it.”

RE: Angels From The Ashes (Blair Douglas)
Thanks for posting both the tune and the chords, JAJ. It is a tune that is indeed open to a number of chord alternatives.
The one that IS a bit odd is the G (4th chord in 2nd line) which is set against what I would take to be either Dmaj or Bm: somewhat crunchy but you can get used to it. Hoping to record it soon, using Blair's chords first then an alternative set. I listened to Blair's recording of the tune on Youtube and it starts lower in Bb then moves to Eb when the pipes come in, (but I'll stick with D as easier to play!) |
