Hi !
Hi!
I don't play mandoline, just fiddle and recorder/whistle and not very well, but I like mandoline a lot. I'm selftaught, I know there is many people who is, but I'm a very isolated one, because there is not sessions here, where I live.
I'm from Spain and I learned myself English so be patient, please.
I can't teach anything but I hope learn a lot. Smile
Greetings!

RE: Hi !
Welcome to the wonderful world of The Gathering, A. Many of will identify with you on being self-taught and living somewhere there are few other musicians to play along with - this is probably why we are members of this excellent site. As far as not being able to teach anything, I think we all pick up ideas and tips from everyone we hear or see, or read here on the forum.
Your English far surpasses my Spanish!

RE: Hi !
Welcome Antonia.

Most of us who have been playing for some time are self taught.
It may be an exaggeration(but only slight) to suggest that there were no mandolin teachers before Nigel but they were few and far between. In fact, there were very few good tutor books until relatively recently and most of these related to Old time American music and/or bluegrass.

We're a nice bunch though. It's the self taught bodhran players whom you have to worry about.

RE: Hi !
Hi Antonia,
I'm self taught mainly, with a little help from Joel McDermott, but most of us learn from Nigel's wonderful site and you'll find plenty of tunes here. You're fiddle and recorder are welcome, Nigel plays the whistle, so you're in good company. Look forward to more postings.....
Happy Easter to all......
