Music TOW#34: Liberton Polka
Liberton Polka

I got this tune from the late Dundonian fiddler/mandolinist Allan Barty, from his 1980 LP 'Barty's Bow'. It should be played slightly "dotted".

RE: TOW#34: Liberton Polka
Nigel, I am attaching a pipe version as a pdf, with all 4 parts of the tune "Liberton Pipe Band" which I assume is the original from which came Liberton Polka. Or indeed it may be the other way around! I remembered the pipe tune when you posted the polka as I recalled there being 4 parts. Hope it might be of use to others.

RE: TOW#34: Liberton Polka
Thanks, John, but I'm not sure it is the same. The second phrase (bars 3 and 4) in LP is firmly in A7, whereas in LPB its not. Although there are similarities, if one did come from the other, it's been removed a fair bit.

It's similar to The Royal Scots polka too.

RE: TOW#34: Liberton Polka
It's not only similar to The Royal Scots Polka, it is The Royal Scots Polka and nothing like The Liberton Polka.
