Lady Onlie
![]() 2. Her house sae bien, her curch sae clean, I wat she is a daintie chuckie; And cheery blinks the ingle-gleed Of Lady Onlie, honest Lucky. Ch: Lady Onlie, honest Lucky, Brews gude ale at shore o’ Bucky, I wish her sale for her gude ale, The best on a’ the shore o’ Bucky. I love songs about old drinking establishments, and Burns knew a few of those. This was a fragment of an old song which Burns added to. The tune is old, known as The Ruffian’s Rant, but these days more commonly known as Roy’s Wife of Aldivalloch after a better known 18th century song. “Bucky” will refer to Buckhaven, the fishing town in Fife.
