I learned these Irish polkas from Edinburgh flute player Gordon Turnbull. “Patrick O’Connor’s No.1” goes by the alternative title “Tom Barrett’s”.

Two good wee tunes here, Nigel. Will certainly have a go at them as a pair. One question - should the C# in the first one be C natural to suggest the A minor chord? In your mp3 you are playing the C natural. As the tunes are new to me I'm not sure.

Dash it all - yes, should be C natural. I've changed all the files. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks for that, Nigel. Here is link to my very hastily-recorded version of the two, done on mandolin and guitar about ten minutes ago. Is this a record for posting on TOW?

Here is my version of the Paddy O'Connor's Polkas, really great tunes. I will work on the mandocello because they sound good on that but my fingers are not nimble enough on the second part of No. 1 yet !!!!!!!

Well played again, that man! The mandocello sounds good.

Hi John, many thanks for the kind words, but there is no mandocello on that, just the 10 string. You've shamed me into having a bash though!!!! http://youtu.be/U17aesJ684s
I'll have to work on my lighting, I look like I've been Tango'd........!!!!

RE: TOW#30: Patrick O'Connor's
I think I'll hold onto the Patrick O'Connor polkas for another week, give folk a chance to catch up, or take a breather. I've got next week's one all lined up, though: a beautiful slow air from Phil Cunningham.
