TOW29: Reel Eugene

I learned this French Canadian tune from a wonderful video on YouTube (Commando Trad Mission 5). It was composed by Arthur Pigeon, about whom I know nothing. I love the way it moves from a minor key in the A part into a major key in the B part. There are plenty of Scottish tunes which might be able to capture that same excitement - I'll work on that. One that springs to mind is The Peat Fire Flame.

What a great bouncy tune! And those Commando Trad Missions are amazing, esp the one you have mentioned where it looks like a little street busking session, and then the musicians just keep appearing from every crook and nanny. Now there's a summer project.....

RE: TOW#29: Reel Eugene
Had a bash at this, not very nice that 4th bar and I'm cack-handed and not too good at barring so was quite tough for me.......

Great video of the gig in Montreal, Nigel. Just bursting with energy and folk having real fun. They really got the audience going.
Tosh, nice interpretation of the tune at a more sedate pace, and again a good tone from that instrument. TOW is an asset on this site.

After seeing the vid of the Canadian bash, I see what you mean by sedate pace John!!!!! I'll have another bash at a more suitable tempo! More tunes to do as well !!!!

RE: TOW#29: Reel Eugene
Also, Tosh, you're playing the last bar in the A part differently - you're playing the two minims as a dotted minim and a crotchet. I think these bars are essential to the sound of the whole tune, and should be played as equal notes, the first ending keeping to the minor key, the second ending heralding the change to major.

Yeah Nigel, you're right, I'll definitely have another bash at it. I don't know why I played that ending like that.....Will do it again at a better tempo, I'll practise and try and do it this weekend.......

RE: TOW#29: Reel Eugene
Here is my second attempt, a bit better than the first I think and hopefully I've got the turnaround right......the 4th bar is troublesome for me, but it is a great tune.

Wow Tosh, I'm impressed. That fourth finger looks a bit tricky - I'm away to give it a go.
