Thanks to Brian and John Kelly for alerting me to forum problems (it disappeared to be replaced by an error message). I'm away from home just now, but I was able to find the (simple) solution: I had to add a "@" symbol to a file in the innards of the forum software.

Hopefully that's it sorted for the meantime.
