On Hold
My laptop broke this morning, so it will be while till I'm able to participate on the forum. It's being collected on Wednesday, so heaven knows when I'll be up and running. The worst thing will be dealing with two or three weeks' worth of bogus registrations - I shudder to think!

RE: On Hold
Hi Tosh, I've just passed a quick half hour joyfully learning Drummond Castle by ear from your "Cloud" offering. Many thanks for giving me the challenge. I'm trying very hard to improve my skills in that area.

RE: On Hold
Sandra, glad you found it useful. John Kelly did a version of it too which is wonderful. It's a great jig to practise and get your fingers going! Another of Nigel's gems!

RE: On Hold
FWIW, Drummond Castle is a jigification of "Tha mi sgith"/"Cutting Bracken". I like to go from the strathspey into the jig.

This seems to be the tune also known as "Navvie on the Line". I have a CD "Oddfellas: Odds and Ends" which includes the tune on track 8 along with "Stack of Barley" (http://www.oddfellas.co.uk).
In fact Nigel included a slightly adapted version in the Slow Session class last year and it has been played a few times at Bennet's. A PDF of Nigel's version is attached.

RE: On Hold
Hi Alistair, yeah I was aware of it being known as Navvie On The Line. It's like the Manchester Hornpipe is commonly known as Ricketts. It's interesting that immigrants from Ireland bring their music over and whether it's the UK or America, the titles get changed along the way. Thanks for the links.
