And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ar_Hyd_y_Nos No such excitement last night, but still a good session, and good to be back there. Maybe just as well the cast didn't come in, as the show on at the King's this week was called "Punk Rock". Brush up the wartime songs for next week as it's "Carrie's War". (Oh, and it's Welsh again!) |

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Playlist 1 for the moothie session at Sandy Bell's on alternate Mondays includes the set:
The Keel Row [A] The Glasgow Highlanders [D] Katie Bairdie [D] Brochan Lom (aka Orange & Blue) (D) Orange and Blue is in session book 2 page 5, but I don't think any of the others are in any of the books. Apart from The Glasgow Highlanders though (which older readers will recall as the signature tune of a Saturday night Radio Scotland soap opera called The McFlannels), I think the other will be familiar to most people, so maybe we could have a go at some or all of these at tomorrow's slow session (10th November). Alistair. In case anyone wants to check out The Glasgow Highlanders, here is the ABC for a version which more or less corresponds to the version I remember. RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
I've just heard that the SMG events for tonight have been cancelled, and my Community Education whistle class has been cancelled tomorrow morning, so I'll definitely not be there.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
I had a message from Graham to say that three people (including him) turned up at Bennet's last Wednesday.
They didn't play but all agreed that they would come back this Wednesday (8th December) and hope there would be a few more. Graham asked me to spread the word and encourage anyone who can get there on foot or by bus to come along and help make it a rousing, and warming, session. Alistair. |

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
A few of us made it to Bennet's last night (8th Dec), and made some music, but around 10pm a whole crowd came in to the Green Room, and although some of them listened some of the time, the background noise of conversation was such that it was hard to hear even the person next to you, never mind anyone else.
After I left Graham talked to the manager, and I append his message (slightly edited). The gist of it is we won't be able to use Bennet's Green Room for the Slow Session again till well into the New Year. Alistair [Message from Graham 9th Dec] The manager told us before we left last night that there is a function on next Wednesday. He also indicated that the Wednesday before Christmas would not be good either. Furthermore because of the pantomime next door (that noisy influx of people was to do with that) it wouldn't be an option for a while after Christmas, but he wasn't specific as to how long. It is possible the first Wednesday of the new term my be a problem and this will need clarification. I didn't get the impression he was fed up with us or trying to get rid of us. It seemed down to practical problems. He said he has your email and will contact you direct. |
