The Wednesday Slow Session

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Alistair's tune got a bit discombobulated by whatever program generated the ABC. In particular the key line vanished. Sounds best (albeit rather doom-laden) in D minor to me:

Code:
X:1
T:The Slow Session's Return to the Green Room
C:Alistair Kilgour
N:To celebrate the return of the Slow Session to Bennets Green
N:Room after an absence of almost 27 months (15th September 2010)
Q:3/8=80
M:6/8
L:1/8
K:DMin
"Dm"D3  F3  |A>FF F3 |"C"G>EE "Am"E2E |"Dm"F>ED F>GA|
"Dm"D2D F2A |A>FF F2F|"C"G>EE "F" F<AF|"Dm"D3   D2z:|
"Dm"d2B B2d |A>FF F3 |"C"G>EE "Am"E2E |"Dm"F>ED F>GA|
"Dm"d2B B>cd|A>FF F3 |"C"G>EE "F" F<AF|"Dm"D3   D3 :|

Not sure about that F chord but I can't think of a better one.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Thanks for efforts to disentangle the intended tune, Eric & Jack.
The key was (is) D major, though the D minor effect is interesting, Eric. I tend to think only in major, though: I guess it comes from the first and for a long time only instrument I could play being the moothie.
I did kind of notice that a smiley had appeared instead of the D in the key line of the ABC when I pasted it, but should have followed up on that. Very strange ...
The provenance of the generating software (Melody Assistant) is embedded as a comment at the start of the exported ABC.
I think the JPG of the score, which was embedded at the end of the original posting, was OK, though. Am attaching a MIDI file as well, and here is the ABC again:

Blast, it's happened again: the K: D line has got changed to KBig Grin!
Must be an artefact of the underlying forum system. Maybe the K: is taken for an HTML tag?
Anyway, it's not too hard to work round, now the cause is clear.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
When you type a colon ( : ) next to a capital d ( D ) it becomes a smiley. What to do about it? I don't know. Is there a way to disable smileys?

Thanks again Nigel ...
I have just noticed there's a box below the "signature" tick box which says "Disable Smileys": that might do the trick!
In the comments, 15th September 2001 was meant to be 15th September 2010, tomorrow's date. As I recall, our expulsion from Eden was in June 2008, but now I am not so sure – maybe it was June 2009, which would be just 15 months ago.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Alastair,

thank you so much for arranging the session at Bennetts. I look forward to our return and practising your tune! I have also enjoyed playing your 'Agapanthus' tune from your book over the summer while looking at my flowers of the same name!

See you tomorrow.
Nicola

Thanks Nicola, I just happened to be available to take the final small step in a long process initiated by Nigel some time ago.
Maybe we can play "Agapanthus" tomorrow at Bennet's, though I feel it's not very "traditional".
Alistair.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Barry the Bennets manager wasn't there in person last night, but they were clearly expecting us, and the welcome was warm.
I have mailed Barry to check that everything is fine to repeat the experience next week (22nd).
Alistair.

Have now had a positive response from Barry so everything is fine for the Slow Session in Bennets Green Room next Wednesday 22nd September.
Alistair.

RE: The Wednesday Slow Session
Hallo, I've been learning the fiddle for just over a year now and have been looking for a slow/beginner's session and was wondering whether it would be alright to come along on a Wednesday night and see if I could cope.
