Music TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Ray's Classic

Ray's Classic was composed by Shetland fiddler Wilie Hunter and named after a friend's car. I have seen it under a variety of names such as "Roy's Session", "The Race Classic", "North Cregg", and "Willie Hunter's".

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Here's my take on it, I've done two versions, one on the Shippey Cherry and one on the Eastman 815 which doesn't get much playing done on it as it should do!
The Shippey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iopzzq1eJHM
The Eastman 815 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpJQ5rKo-68

John, if you want to put just audio, then if you post the tune on your MySpace site, you just put a link to it as in http://mandolins.yolasite.com/resources/...Guitar.mp3

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Tosh, thanks for advice re posting mp3 files to this group. Unfortunately I do not have a MySpace site, just the YouTube one at present - but now you have put the idea in my head, which is how I got into the Song-of-the-Week group over in the Mandolin Cafe!

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Ah sorry John, I thought you did. But you have a music page on your site for your mandolins, you could just link a track from there. Anyway keep up the great vids you do, great work........

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Hi Tosh,
Thanks for that. I will look at linking to my site as i was going to update the mp3 list on that page anyway. Great to have another mind thinking outside the box.
Thanks for kind comments re video clips ans keep your own stuff coming too. It's good to hear other folk giving their own interpretation of a tune - i was playing Archibald MacDonald of Keppoch to our accordionist (another Macdonald) and he had not heard it and remarked that it was unusual and had I got it right; i said that I was playing it from the score and he replied that that was just the notes, but not necessarily how we should play it!

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
That is funny John because you learn a tune, think you have it nailed, and then somebody else comes along with another version that is not what you expected and takes the tune elsewhere. You see it on the Cafe with all the different styles (Bluegrass, duets, mixes etc...). That is why music is exciting, because you never know anything about a tune really, it can be speeded up or slowed down for different effects. I think it's interesting the way the Americans interpret the traditional stuff because it always sounds American! Not surprising really, it's the local way of interpretation. Then you hear the tune on 'Take The Floor' by a Scottish Country Dance Band and it's another world away. Then there is always my version .........the tune is finished forever then!!!!!!!

RE: TOW#4:Ray's Classic
Hi Tosh and others, have decided that I will go on your advice, Tosh, and post a link to my website page here which has an embedded mp3 player and a selection of tunes I have recorded recently. This may be a way of getting mp3s on to the site.

Thanks again,
