Tune of the Week No.1:
Cenneag Mhor ![]() I transcribed this tune from my record collection, from one of my favourite Scottish dance bands, Addie Harper's Wick SCD Band. I don't really know anything about the tune, but I like it. It's in a D pentatonic key, and fairly lilts along. Try it. What d'you think? Nigel Gatherer Crieff, Perthshire |

Hi Nigel,
I wasn't sure if you'd think this Tune a Week idea was worth the effort, or if you even had time to fit it in, but fair play & thanks for giving it a go. Anyway, here's my attempt at it. Cenneag Mhor To qualify my effort, I have been playing mostly Irish Music for the past 30 odd years, so I'm afraid anything I play is bound to have a certain lilt to it! ![]() Also, I have this tune in the back of my mind as a song or mouth music, recorded by, I think, the Bothy Band, so there's probably not much of the Heederum Hoderums about my take on it ... sorry! ![]() Cheers Dick Dick Glasgow Mandolin Group The Concertina in Scotland |

RE: TOW#1: Cenneag Mhor
I think it's worth a shot, I'll certainly have a bash at it....but I'm definitely not in your league Dick and your Sobell is great. Should have my new Shippey in a month all being well.......
Anyway I'll work on it for now...... Nigel, there is an open e missing on the 2nd bar 2nd line for those that can't read dots......(me just being pedantic!!!!) OK, I did it, here it is:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcFom3BB_Aw Tosh Marshall Paul Shippey Cherry Oval Paul Shippey 10 String Mandolin Weber Gallatin Mandocello Eastman 815 Eastman 505 http://mandolins.yolasite.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/toshpics http://www.youtube.com/user/ToshMarshall https://www.facebook.com/tosh.marshall |

Two interestingly different versions here, gents. New tune to me, so will have a go at learning it and then may well post another version.

Just newly joined and a posting already. You'll find there are many of us who play more than the mandolin and we do post examples. just as you have done. Looking forward to hearing some mandolin from you now.

I want to buy one, but because of the crisis, I'm afraid I'll have to wait a little more till I get enough money for that. ![]() Thanks for your kind answers.
