Edinburgh "kitchen session" starting up for beginning / intermediate players...
Hey all,

Some of us from the SMG classes in Edinburgh are starting up an informal, private session about once a week to just practice playing in a group and for fun. Most of us are late beginners - late intermediates; none of us are advanced enough in general for session playing in pubs. Atmosphere will be relaxed, pacing slowish, repertoire a mix of Scottish and Irish. So anyway, if there's some other people in the Edinburgh area out there who would be interested, drop me a line (mellingsather@gmail.com) and I'll fill you in on the details as they develop... (Also would be great for any advanced players who are learning a new instrument as it would be nice to have some experienced sessions musicians around as well).

Cheers,
Nate

How do you see this being different from the slow session? Different repertoire, location, time?...

It'll be a bit more Irish-focused than SMG usually is and will be held on private premises, which some people prefer. (And a different time as well). Anyone from the slow session could have another opportunity to practice session playing and expand their repertoire. Certainly not intended as a rivalry and I would encourage anyone in the kitchen session to also attend the slow session.

Hi Nate,

I might be interested. What sort of format do you see the sessions taking?

Thanks
Ian
