New Pieces
I have been working very hard on some new pieces for June. I am proposing that we look at:
Mancini, Moon River Trad Arr Gatherer, Dainty Davie Pommerenke-Steel, Two Camels Mozart/Munier, Don Giovanni Serenata The last on the list is by far the most challenging, particularly for the first mandolins, who have an awful lot of notes to play. The question is, is it too hard for you? Would any 1st mandolins who are reading this have a look at it and give me your opinion. As I say, there are a lot oif notes, but if you know your arpeggios etc, it's easier. But do tell me what you think... Nigel Gatherer Crieff, Perthshire |

However, a cursory glance shows that it is based primarily on straight runs and arpeggios so provided we start slow and build up speed gradually there shouldn't be any major problem. If any issues do arise when I and others start to work through it I'll drop you an email. Cheers, Eric |

RE: New Pieces
Thanks, Eric. I've pretty much decided that we should do it - I think it's a great piece, and I think that, with work, we can achieve it.

RE: New Pieces
I'm not getting to try out your tune, obviously.
![]() Is there a way I can access it without being a member of the EMGO...just out of curiousity? "You'll have had your tune...."

In this case Munier provides variations to a theme by Mozart; Nigel has adapted it for EMGO's instrumentation. A version on You Tube can be seen/heard via http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ddwHJ74IIw Note the 6 course Lombard mandolin, from Jean-Paul Bazin's collection. |

"The server http://www.emgo.org.uk at members requires a username and password."
So, presumably I have to be a member? "You'll have had your tune...."

RE: New Pieces
The main reason for the password-controlled section is that some of the pieces will be under copyright for one reason or another (e.g. "Sunny Afternoon" which is copyright as a composition by Ray Davies, and as an arrangement by our bass player). It's not that we're being overly exclusive.
The piece in question is my adaptation of a piece adapted and arranged by Carlo Munier of a serenata from Mozart's Don Giovanni. I got it from a private Japanese site which only allows foreign mandolin orchestras access. You have to apply for the password - we qualify handsomely! Nigel Gatherer Crieff, Perthshire |
