[Concertina] New Scottish Concertina Forum
Popular forums contributor Ptarmigan has created a Forum especially designed to promote an interest in Concertinas in Scotland:
"This new forum is designed simply to find out how many Concertina players there actually are in Scotland and perhaps encourage more contact between them and help them to stay in touch with one another and so hopefully strengthen the Scottish Concertina community..." It was only launched within the last couple of days, so (like The Gathering) it'll be a while before it's up and running, but have a look: http://englishconcertina.proboards.com/index.cgi Nigel Gatherer Crieff, Perthshire |

RE: [Concertina] New Scottish Concertina Forum
Thanks Nigel. One of my Stirling folkie friends is very keen on the concertina and has been playing in a band for quite a few years, so I'll pass the URL across to her.

Thanks too Eric for passing on the link. As your friend will see Eric, if she visits my forum, I'm building up a list of musicians in Scotland who play the Concertina players & so far I have 1 Duet player, 9 Anglo players & 57 English Concertina players. So I hope she makes herself known & adds her name to one of those lists, if she is not already on one of them. ![]() Sorry Eric, but I guess I'm what you called an interloper on another thread. However, as a Scot, I spent years attending sessions in the Aberdeen, Angus & Edinburgh areas, so I'm very interested in the session scene over there, although unfortunately I don't get home very often. I also ran a very informal beginners session here in Ballycastle for about eight years, so I'm fascinated by the very organised way Nigel runs his sessions. So I hope you don't mind the odd interloper Eric? .... Oh & I use the word odd, advisedly! ![]() Cheers Dick Dick Glasgow My Website Scottish Concertina Forum |

RE: [Concertina] New Scottish Concertina Forum
I have emailed my pal Helen, so fingers crossed she will join your site. One of my old statistical friends, now unfortunately no longer with us, was Henry Daniels. He was Professor at Birmingham, and later Emeritus Professor at Cambridge, and I believe he was a leading exponent of the English concertina and used to give piano duets. Looks like Maths and Concertina is an interesting combination.
I hope your site goes well - I am sure it will. All the best for 2009, Eric |

Idle curiosity, I know, Dick, but are you the same Ptarmigan who also posts on FootStompin'? If so, I must admire your enthusiasm for drumming up concertina support. Most impressed!
