RE: Lyrics required
Hi Anne,
I've recently bought a CD by Realtime (includes Judy Dinning and Kenny Speirs) on which Judy does "Waters of Tyne" beautifully: will let you have a listen.
"My love is newly listed, and he wears the white (blue) cockade" - depending which version you listen to: try Show of Hands (from Devon!) or the Waterson/Carthy clan for that! I think the Snows song is a different one, and I myself got confused between "When the Snows of winter Fall" (Graeme Miles) and the "The Snows that fall the Soonest", notably recorded by Anne Briggs.

Ta Trish, I'll let you see the book/CD set sometime and you can see what you think. By the way I'd love to learn the Graeme Miles song.

Well, I don't now if the following is quite was was being invited, but it's offered as an antidote - which we may well be needing - if 2009 and the "Homecoming" has us all sliding into a warm bath of Caledonian nostalgia and sentimental self-satisfaction

It's to the tune, Flower of Scotland, and is a work in progress!

The Bank of Scotland

O Bank of Scotland
When shall we see your like again
That dealt and lied for
Your chief executive men
And worked against us
Proud Alec’s army
And left us homeless
In debt again

High Street doors close now
And businesses lie dark and still
Oer land that’s left poor now
By those who buy and sell
And worked against us
Proud Alec’s army
And left us jobless
On dole again

Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can get wise now
And not be beggered again
That put our trust in
Self-serving bankers
That left us homeless
In debt again

Anne, what you want is Walter Elliot's "The New Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border" (Deerpark Press, 2006). Any bookshop in the Borders should have it.
