There are some occasions when plagiarism gets so blatant you really have to wonder what the composer was smoking. Another one is Niel Gow's Lament for his Second Wife: Charlie Gore pointed out in Box and Fiddle a few years back that it's almost identical to the Irish tune "Kitty Tyrrell", attributed to Carolan but also found in Irish tradition as "The Lambs on the Green Hills" (maybe Carolan just arranged it). Not only was Niel Gow so fond of his second wife that he plagiarized a tune specially for her, he published the original in the same book as the lament, a few pages earlier, so everybody could see what he'd done.
