Fiddle Surprising Mandolin Players
There have be some unlikely people who have played mandolin:

Chic Murray, who had a band called The Whinhillbillies who wore dungarees, checked shirts and false beards.

Glen Miller, who liked the mandolin so much he traded it for a horn at the earliest opportunity.

Tommy Ramone, who records under the name of Uncle Monk (thanks to mandopicker101 for this one).

Any others?

RE: Surprising Mandolin Players
Don't think I can top Glenn Miller, but...

Woody Guthrie?

Perhaps better known for his guitar and singing (and markedly socialist/anti-capitalist lyrics) on albums such as 'Dustbowl Ballads' than his mandolin.

Chris Martin?

Not being a Coldplay fan, I have to admit to being surprised by that one. Then again, maybe Chris has mandolin on every other album track and B-side...

Jack White (one half of the excellent White Stripes)?

I confess to not being surprised by this, but then I'm a White Stripes fan, but I think he's probably better known for ear-splitting vocals and raucous guitars.

Jack plays mando (twice) in the film Cold Mountain (he's on screen for all of 10 minutes) but I guess he really was playing and not miming. Mandolin features on a couple of White Stripes albums too.

RE: Surprising Mandolin Players
Any chance of getting Milla to join us for next Saturday night's EMGO gig, just to liven things up a bit?

Gosh, I miss a week and suddenly EMGO is becoming the equivalent of a Robert Palmer video...
