Slow Session venue while Bennet's is closed
Bennet's is closed for refurbishment at the moment, not sure for how long. On the other hand the Tass has now re-opened (as No 1 High Street) and I believe Wednesday sessions have resumed there.
While the Tass was closed the Wednesday Tass session was hosted at The Canons' Gait, further down the Royal Mile, so I guess there is now a vacancy there, which the Slow Session might wish take advantage of while Bennet's is closed.
Possible plus point is that the management at The Canons' Gait provides sandwiches half way through the evening. Definite minus point is that the pub closes at 11pm. Plus it's much further from Boroughmuir.

The Meadow Bar? They were happy to take the klezmer session in their upstairs room on Thursdays while the Fiddler's Elbow was shut.

Has "Wee Bennet's" ever been investigated?

Looks interesting: and a short bus ride from Boroughmuir ...

Yes we had sessions upstairs in the Meadows Bar over Christmas one year when Bennet's was unavailable because of the pantomime at the King's.

I'll doubtless get a better idea when I go to the Canons' Gait tonight, but last Wednesday I believe that half a dozen folks turned up at the 'Tass' and soon decided to head on down to join the rest of the Wednesday night folks at the Canons Gait. It will be interesting to see what happens this evening.

Just wondered what the situation might be at the Greenmantle on Wednesday evenings. There's a regular session there on Mondays.
Went past the Green Room at Bennet's this afternoon and it looked in pretty good shape. Maybe it will reopen soon.

RE: Slow Session venue while Bennet's is closed
Bob has asked me to post this clarification:
Quote:Can I point out that the Wednesday session at the Canons' Gait is a new session, and was never intended to be a replacement for the Tass session, temporary or otherwise. Whether or not the Tass gets going again, this new session will carry on - and has been very good so far. There's already a few Wednesday sessions in town, and there still seems to be room for more.
Any Bennet's temporary refugees are of course welcome to come along. And to share in the sandwiches. The pub usually closes at 11, but we sometimes get to stay on a bit longer.
Best wishes,
Bob Murray

Just had a text from Barry at Bennet's to say that the Green Room will be closed for another two weeks.

The Green Room at Bennet's has I think now re-opened (as the Skean Dhu). Lots of internal changes (looked in in passing on Sunday afternoon). Nicola phoned last week and was told they would be happy for us to return this Wednesday (9th).
In fact in anticipation of the return I have written some doggerel which we might sing there tomorrow evening (but only if it works out OK).
