Bobby MacLeod of Tobermory
Ian Holmes' tribute to the late accordion maestro, Bobby MacLeod of Tobermory. Played on my own-build bouzouki and tenor guitar, with the instruments soloing and playing in unison, starting with the bouzouki.
Backing is on bouzouki.

Great tune and great recording John.
The tune deserves to be widely known, and played.

Thanks, Alistair. It is a great wee tune and seems to capture Bobby's playing the way Ian has written it.

I must say, John, that I am in awe of the superb way you produce your multi-instrument recordings. My own meagre attempts at recording duets with headphones against a click track throw up serious timing issues; especially with Baroque music that contains a lot of rests. So if you are ever over this way and want to offer a workshop on how best to go about it ...!

RE: Bobby MacLeod of Tobermory
Eric, thanks for your very kind words. If I can offer any advice to any other players then we are fulfilling one of the main purposes for such sites as this one Nigel runs so well.

My wife is over in Edinburgh fairly regularly as she is very involved with the Girlguiding movement at a national level and perhaps we might indeed manage to arrange to meet up with a few like-minded folk and share our skills/problems/workarounds. This would be a great chance to meet up with some of the folk I know here as posters - in fact one day while we were travelling back to East Calder (where my younger daughter lives) we met up with two players who had been at a session in Edinburgh.

Keep in touch and we will try to organise something, and thanks again for your encouragement.

Great idea John. One possibility if you were staying over in East Calder would be to meet up just before the Monday session (9.00-11.00) at the Newliston Arms in Kirkliston which I, and many others, go to. There is a lot of space there and we effectively have the use of the whole of the back bar. You could spread the word via Nigel's website.

As well as the technicalities (e.g. do you use software employed by CD engineers to 'fix' frequency and timing issues) it would be highly instructive to see how you match the individual instruments so well; for sound recordings easily expose any flaws.

Best wishes,
Eric

Hi John,

Many thanks for that - it all sounds good. Once you have an idea of dates (early June onwards) I'll ask around at the Kirkliston session and also post a thread here to see how much interest there is in discovering the secrets to your great recording technique. If folks are interested (apart from me that is) we could possibly arrive a tad early at the Newliston Arms one Monday night for a demo and a chat, followed by the usual excellent session there from 9-11.

Best wishes,
Eric

Hi Eric,
Younger daughter now safely wed and other things out of the way, so can fit in a visit over to your venue - perhaps you do not meet over the summer months? Hear from you in due course.
