This is a great American tune I learned from a recording of American mandolinist Don Grieser.

There's a bit blanked out in the top right corner.

That's deliberate, Jack - the top line is just an old-time style introduction. I have added a video of me playing this tune at the link at the top of the first post in this thread.

Look guys, I know you're in the huff because I took so long to update tune of the week, but have you really got nothing to say? John? Tosh? Beginner Sandra? (It's maybe a bit hard for you, Sandra).

Fear not, Sir, been having a look and it is different from my usual Scottish/Celtic area, but will try a version very soon. Probably post it on SoundCloud again as it seems a good and, so far, trouble-free site for music postings. Several posters from the Mandolin cafe are also using it now. No pressure then, Nigel! Watch this space.

It does look quite challenging but I'll give it a go. Not in the huff, honest, I just have to fight to get on my home computer - 3 teenagers in the house!!

Maybe have a go at it on the (D) moothie, Nigel.
(A bit too wide a range for the whistle or recorder?)
Great to have the video link to be sure how it should sound (and play along with to check).

I put it in ABC since I couldn't get a legible print-out with those tab lines in:

Code:

P:Ending
Ac|dcdA BdAG|FDEF D4|DFAd fdce|d2 [Ad][Ad] [A2d2]|]

I added two pickup notes Nigel forgot and put in a mordent for that odd ornament he didn't write down.

It should work on the A whistle or G alto recorder. Some of those double stops don't look very fiddle-friendly to me - two simultaneously stopped strings.

RE: TOW#17: The New Five Cents
Here is my effort bum notes n'all. It's a toughie, especially the 6th bar of the B Section, which I had trouble with. It's good to try and stretch yourself even if you're not happy with it. I'd recommend Don Grieser's CD 'Hillbilly Chamber Music', it's great.
