Selkirk Sessions - Jack Campin - 07-10-2016

Are the usual suspects going to Selkirk tomorrow?  I will be.

On my way home. Waste of time. Nobody here but C&W singers with guitars.

Could have been worse - they might have had banjos, Jack!

There was one bright spot - a small pipe band, mostly young people, who were impressively together in tuning and timing. But overall the festival seemed to have lost it, and lived down to the poor information provided on its website. It was very much better when it first started.

Last year wasn't too bad thanks to a visiting group of fiddlers from Melbourne. I wasn't hopeful this year though and gave it a miss.

It coincided with Balerno Music Festival this year: usually SS is a weekend earlier. Hence I stayed nearer home this year, where we had a folk concert with Archie Fisher and Duncan McCrone Band on Friday night, a session yesterday afternoon, and "Festival Praise" in the Parish Church this morning, where 3 of us from the Folk Club did our bit. I handed over the Selkirk Sessions Chorus Cup trophy (which I won last year) to a friend a month ago, as she said she was going and would return it.

Duncan was my next door neighbour when I lived in Glasgow in the 1960s. He recently contacted me to ask if I was the same Nigel Gatherer. The same? As if there could ever be two!!!!!!

Maybe time to get us all to sing an updated version of the well-known football chant:  "On-ly one Nigel, you know there's on-ly one Nigel...."?
