The Gathering

I worked with Alistair at the Glasgow Fiddle Workshop, and he was a really nice person, as well as being very interesting. I had known his name through his own singing and as a musical partner to fiddler and mandolinist Dave Swarbrick - no mean achievement, that! A few days ago I heard that he'd been taken seriously ill, and this morning I read that he has in fact died of his ailment (liver cancer). Shocking news. Of course, when i heard he was ill I meant to send him a note of encouragement, but didn't get around to it - not expecting such a rapid deterioration.
